Lifespan of Plasma TVs |

A couple of years ago plasma televisions were rated for 30,000.00 hours to half life. We say half life because the television starts to fade in color at half life. Today most manufacturers claim a lifespan of 60,000 hours to half life. This means that your television will last a long time. This puts the television to last almost seven years with twenty four hour a day use. Imagine how long it will last with regular use! Plasma manufacturers tend to follow each other. The market is a true oligopoly. When one manufacturer claims a longer life, all the other manufacturers follow suit. Therefore, it is probable that many of the claims are slightly exaggerated. In addition, there are other components that are not part of the plasma screen that can fail. If the television could truly last 60 years with no problems, I think they would offer longer warranties. The truth is that nobody really knows how long they last. It is reasonable to assume that they will last as long as older CRT technologies or more. | |||
