Metal and Wooden Stands |
||
|
Metal and wood are two of the primary materials that TV stands are made out of. Metal stands often have glass as part of the stand design. Wood Almost all wood stands come in oak or cherry colors. There are other flavors like walnut and beech, but oak and cherry are, by far, the most popular. There is very little hardwood furniture anymore. Most furniture that claims to be made of hardwood is actually a hardwood veneer. The material is most likely made of plywood or pressed wood with a thin hardwood veneer layer. If you want something that is truly hardwood, you are better off getting a custom furniture maker to design something for you. In this way, you will get what you want. Lower quality furniture is made of pressed wood or MDF. It is the shavings of sawmill furniture pressed together with glue to make a board. The furniture is then veneered with a thin plastic veneer that looks like wood. The wood is often very heavy due to the density of the veneered wood. Metal Metal is the lightest and most cost effective. Most metal stands are accompanied with glass shelving. Steel and aluminum are the metals used. This style of stand blends into the room better and makes it feel more open. A truly metal rack or stand can often be used for speaker mounts or audio racks. A TV stand is rarely made out of metal entirely. Plasma and LCD TV mounts are also made of metal. Mounts are best used when you want a television placed on a wall or if you want it to momentarily disappear for visitors. | |||
