Plasma televisions are reliable and you will probably not have trouble with them.  However there are things you can to minimize problems.

1. Never touch the screen.  Treat the screen like it’s very special and delicate.
2. Dust the screen regularly and delicately
3. Mount the television correctly.  This is not as easy as you might think so take your time to read the instructions and do it right
4. Change the settings so that it is not on maximum.  The colors will tend to fade much sooner if it is always on maximum.  You should turn it down as soon as you get it.

Should the unforeseen happen, take the television into a professional repair dealer.  As a general rule of thumb do not repair an item that is older than six years and do not pay over half of the item original cost.  Most plasma repairs are in the two hundred to three hundred dollar range.

Final Tip

Plasma televisions are very reliable.  Therefore an extended warranty, in all likelihood, is a waste of money.  Further, a single repair is about the same cost as the extended warranty. 

Costco offers a free extended warranty on all new plasma televisions.  If you are concerned about reliability, Costco may be a good place to buy one.

Final Final Tip 
 
Don’t ever buy the extended warranty on anything!!  When Homer Simpson shoved a crayon up his nose and into his brain, his first comment was, “Extended warranty! How can I lose?”
