Speaker Stands

Speakers stands are sometimes an afterthought.  They are, however, necessary to get the most out of your surround sound.

Speaker stands most often sit on the floor and bring the speaker up off the floor so that the sound can be delivered more appropriately.  It also looks a lot better to have a speaker stand than to crowd out your TV stand with other speakers.

Speaker stands can also mount the speaker directly to the wall.  Wall mount stands are less expensive and typically used for smaller speakers.  You need to check the layout of the room to see if this setup will work for you.  You need to determine how far away the wall is.  A far away speaker will not sound as good as a close up one.

Console or end table speaker stands are gaining in popularity.  Some speakers are enclosed in fine hardwood and concealed as an end talble.  A subwoofer can hide in the end table pointed down at the ground.  What you can get is some incredible sound that looks great.

Speaker stands are most often light steel, aluminum, or plastic that are placed on the floor.  However, console and wall mounted speaker stands are a good idea to consider, as well.
